I spent today on the slopes at Wattchuset Ski Resort snowboarding! After dealing with rain for a couple hours, the weather started cooperating an it dried out, and cooled off. This caused some really thick fog near the summit. Not having my DSLR with me, I shot this with my iPhone. It was challenging bombing down the mountain with such limited visibility, but it just added to the challenge!
Good by wonderful mountain! I’ll miss you!
Today was great! The light snow that fell yesterday coupled with a cold night and bright sun made for great conditions! Some of the best I’ve seen on the East Coast! The mountain was mostly empty, too! It was great to just be able to point my board down and push the limits of control (I maxed out today at 43 mph!)!
Tomorrow starts ‘normal’ life again, but that’s not a bad thing! I’ll get to see my friends again, and start a new semester!
These photos were taken after I decided I was done for the day/weekend. It was 2 hrs before my lift ticket expired, but after 3 days of hard riding (and not being as young as I once was), coupled with a pending 5 hr drive home, I was finished!
It’s hard to beat a day snowboarding; the pure speed, pushing the edge of control, and enjoying God’s creation! I’ve always enjoyed being outside, and a physical challenge. This gives me both 🙂
I wanted to get some vista views today, but the peaks started out shrouded in mist, so I just took some photos at the base (both in the morning and at night). Even without going too far from the comfort of the lodge, there was plenty to shoot, but since it was cold, I limited my time outside (esp. tonight, when I was just wearing jeans and a light jacket in the 8 degree night). I hope you enjoy them. And as always, any feed back is appreciated (not just the good stuff, I am always looking for pointers on how to improve).
I realize now that I should have used my speed light and fired it off from the left side to help accentuate the chairs. This is a learning experience, so next time 🙂

Good evening! Today was a great day; shredding the slopes up here at Sunday River in Newry, Maine! Thought I’m feeling my age and lack of gym use 😦 But it’s worth it! I did take my camera out on the slopes today but it was so cold that to take it out meant my hands about froze almost immediately. But I did brave it once but nothing really good came out (was on the chair as dusk was falling). But when I returned from getting dinner, I took a drive to the main resort building and shot the slopes lit up for night skiing. Tomorrow I’ll take more photos from the slopes with a borrowed P&S camera. I may brave the elements for a sunrise, but we’ll see 😉
On the way up, I did stop and try to shoot the sunrise from the side of the road. I think it looked way more amazing in person, but here it is:
Tomorrow morning I’ll get up very early, hop into my car, and head for Sunday River for THREE days of snowboarding!
I’ve spent most of this evening packing, double checking that I have everything, and trying to find a way to cary my DSLR safely with me on a few runs. I have been loaned a couple point-and-shoot cameras and a Flip cam that I can keep with me all weekend, but I want to be able to use the capabilities of my camera to capture some great photos. I will admit that photography is not going to be my focus this weekend 🙂 If I don’t get a post up each day, don’t worry, I’ll post one for each day no later than Monday.
