Day 149 (28 May 2012) . . . and some gave all.

Here in the US we are celebrating Memorial Day.  Today is the day we honor all those who gave their life for our freedom.  From Wikipedia:
“Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually in the United States on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. ”

Please remember to take a moment and honor those who gave all, and those that they left behind.  Please teach your children the true meaning of this holiday; that it is not about BBQs, parties, etc.

Day 67 (7 March 2012) Combat

Today I was sitting at my table working, and looked over and saw the sunlight streaming through the sliding door.  It alighed upon my combat boots (staged there for when it snows), and it brought back memories of my time in Afghanistan.  I’m very thankful to God that I did not see any combat, nor have to fire my weapon in offence or self defence.  Other than a few tense moments on convoy, the memories are generally good.

But seeing the glint of the sunlight off the dog tag laced onto my boots made me pause and think of all those that didn’t come home.

Regardless of your views of the war and of politics, I urge you to honor those that gave their all for this country, and in hopes of bringing peace and prosperity to the oppressed.
